Scrumptious Seafood Adventure

Do you love SEAFOOD?? If so, then you would have really enjoyed this 4 day NH & Maine seafood-packed dining adventure!!

Do you love SEAFOOD??   If so, then you would have really enjoyed this 4 day seafood-packed dining adventure!!

Weathervane Seafood Restaurant One of my sisters, Karen, came to visit me about a week ago.  She went to high school here in Portsmouth NH, so this was a bit of a memory-tour as well, as she hadn't been back here to visit in a good number of years.  Plus, she wanted to see my 'new' home, which she'd only seen pictures of.

So, we picked her up at the Manchester NH Airport, and pulled a great surprise visit off on another of my sisters, Dale, who lives with her family in Manchester,  about 45 minutes west of me.  We just showed up, and Karen walked in the door a couple minutes later, and stunned Dale.  Needless to say we had great fun with that little surprise!

Dinner that night was in Manchester, at Famous Dave's BarbecueAnd this is where my sister, Karen's, seafood adventure began!

Karen ordered grilled salmon with some kind of pineapple barbecue sauce, and Dale ordered catfish fingers.  Karen ate her salmon, as well as some of the catfish fingers.  The rest of us had yummy barbecue ribs - it would never occur to us to order fish in a rib place, but they did, and they said it was delicious.  We'll take their word for it.....

The next seafood meal was lunch at The Weathervane Seafood Restaurant in Kittery Maine.  The Weathervane Fried Clams Platehas their own fishing fleet, so most of what they serve they also catch.  For those who don't know, New England is one of the world's great seafood capitals, supplying seafood to places all over the country and the world.  Lunch that day was a broiled bay scallop and haddock platter for Karen, and I had fried native Maine shrimp.  Nothing beats fresh New England seafood - YUMMY!!

Wentworth By The Sea Hotel

Our next delicious fresh native seafood lunch was at the historic Wentworth By The Sea Hotel in New Castle NH.  This hotel is on the National Historic Properties Registry, and is just absolutely stunning inside.  The restoration that was done a few years back is just glorious.  They have a lovely restaurant overlooking the island out over to Portsmouth, and their menu is wonderful.

They have just about THE best lobster roll in the whole Seacoast area!  None of the fillers you usually find in most lobter rolls!!  This one is just chock full of fresh lobster meat and just a tiny touch of mayonnaise.  It's served with handcut french fries, and an apple cabbage cole slaw.  The lobster roll is one of our New England frankfurter rolls, grilled with a touch of butter on the outside, and then packed with all this lobster.  There's so much lobster in this roll that you have to eat some of it with your fork just so you can then pick it up and eat it as a sandwich.  They bring out a small dish of hot drawn butter in case you want to drizzle it over the lobster - heavenly!!  Newick's Seafood Restaurant Dover NH

This was the last day of her visit, so my sister, Dale and her family, came over that night for dinner so they could see her before she flew back home to Ohio.  We decided to head to Newick's Seafood Restaurant in Dover NH for this meal.

Newick's, like Weathervane, is a very family-oriented restaurant.  The food is piled high, it's as fresh as fresh can be, with a never-ending supply of fresh warm rolls & butter.  Newick's also has their own fleet of fishing boats to supply their own local seafood.

Fried Seafood Platter

Dinner that night ran the full range of their menu - we had just about everything they offered served at our table that night.  There were 7 of us eating together.

Karen had a seafood sampler platter that had fried baby shrimp, fried scallops, fried clams, and fried haddock nuggets on it.  I had a fried native shrimp and haddock nugget combo plate.  Everyone had some kind of combination of all of that as well.  The only thing missing during that meal was the actual plain boiled or steamed lobster!Lobster Dinner

I think my sister, Karen, got her wish of filling herself full of seafood on this visit!  I think we just about covered it all.  I know her husband was sure wishing he'd been here with her - talk about a seafood lover's dream!!

Now, for her next visit............     ;-))        Come back again very soon, Karen!!

If you're planning a visit here to the Portsmouth New Hampshire areas, make sure to enjoy some of our wonderful native seafood.  I can tell you, once you've eaten it here fresh off the boats, frozen fish somewhere else just won't cut it any more!!  Our local commercial fishing piers here supply seafood for places the world over......make sure you come check out our local seafood for yourself!!
