Portsmouth NH is a great little city to live in all year long, with lots of fun things going on no matter the time of year. Ringing in the New Year here is certainly no exception!
You have your choice of several fun events to take part in here in Portsmouth and the surrounding area. Some of these start during the day, so you can have plenty of fun and then head home if you plan to ring in the New Year at home. For those looking for some night time activities, you'll find plenty of awesome fun at each of these fun evening events!
- Start New Year's Eve day off at the Children's Museum of Portsmouth by enjoying their annual Family New Year's Eve celebrationfrom 10am to 3pm. Toast the New Year with a flute of ginger-ale and watch the ball drop hourly here from 11am to 2pm, with lots of other family activities going on as well.
- Take part in the New Year's Eve Laff-In in Exeter at the Ioka Theater, from 8pm to 10pm. There will be some great comics here and plenty of laughing!
- Rock the night away at the "Seacoast Rockin' New Year's Eve Dance and International Hot Dog Festival" in Portsmouth. Jumbo Circus Peanuts will be playing at this dance, and I can tell you they are fabulous and so much fun to hear and dance to. The first time I heard them play was this past summer at during Market Square Day. They were AWESOME!! This dance and festival will be at the VFW Ballroom in downtown Portsmouth, starting at 8pm. Great music and hot dogs and sausage sandwiches from around the world will be part of this fun New Year's Eve celebration.

- And of course, the granddaddy of all Portsmouth celebrations is the Annual First Night Portsmouth New Year's Eve Celebration.
The fun festivities here start at 1pm in the center of downtown with ice sculptures being carved and continues through to midnight. Street dances begin at 5:00pm, fireworks begin at 7:30pm, with the countdown to the New Year at midnight in the heart of Market Square.
In between all these fun things will be all kinds of other events going on - puppet shows, concerts, plays, face painting, dancing, and more - at various venues around town. For more detailed info, check out Pro Portsmouth.

Enjoy the festivities, and have fun ringing in 2008!
I wish us all a very healthy, happy, and prosperous 2008!!
