AT HOME in Newmarket New Hampshire

At Home in Newmarket New Hampshire - Newmarket is a former mill town in the inland part of Rockingham County in the southeastern part of NH. Learn some history about Newmarket along with some real estate market information, too.

Welcome to Newmarket NH

AT HOME IN NEWMARKET NEW HAMPSHIRE - Newmarket is a former mill town in the inland part of Rockingham County.  The current population is about 9100 residents, including a number of students attending the University of NH in Durham, which is the next town over.

Newmarket is the home to former Olympian Lynn Jennings.  Lynn was a bronze medalist in the 1992 Women's Track and Field team.  Residents here are quite proud of their tie to the Olympics through native Lynn Jennings.Newmarket NH Town Seal

Although inland a ways from the ocean, Newmarket was a major player in the shipping trade industry for New England for trading and shipping with the West Indies in the mid to late 1700's.  From the 1800's into the 1920's, Newmarket played a huge role in the textile industries.

The mill buildings in downtown Newmarket are a testament to how those mills dominated the local economy for many years.  In the 1970's these mill buildings served as the corporate headquarters for the Timberland Company, before they outgrew the space.

Condos Newmarket NHThose same mill buildings now house gorgeous condos and commercial space, with more being developed today.  The character of those old buildings is being brought back to life, and those living  in the beautifully restored spaces just love it there.

The buildings are right on the banks of the Lamprey River, right in the heart of downtown.

The residents of Newmarket have been working very hard to revitalize their downtown area, and a drive through town will show you just how much work they've already done.

These buildings are real beauties, and most of them are now listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

Newmarket NH Community CenterNewmarket is a very community-oriented town, with events taking place year-round for all to take part in.  One of their renowned events is their Newmarket Heritage Festival every fall for a full 3-day weekend.

This festival has come to be known as "the best little International Block Party on the Seacoast".

It really is a terrific time, if you get a chance to go, go - you'll enjoy all the foods, crafts, music & dance, kayak excursions, and all the other great activities they have going on during this festival.

Rockingham Ballroom Newmarket NH

Newmarket is home to the Rockingham Ballroom - a fabulous place for ballroom dancing, as well as a variety of the dances from the rock and roll days.  Rockingham Ballroom has been going strong for over 75 years

People come from miles around to take part in their dances as well as to enjoy ballroom dancing lessons.  "Dancing with the Stars" has probably increased interest all over the country!
