Portsmouth New Hampshire’s Real Estate Market Update

The charts below show you how our real estate market in Portsmouth NH is doing in relation to the same time frame from 2007.

There are currently 76 residential homes on the market in Portsmouth NH and there have been 52 homes sold so far this year as compared to 74 homes sold during the same time last year. That is a decrease of 22 homes sold over the same time from last year.

What’s interesting is the average price of homes sold this year has increased by $37,000.  The median price has only increased by $10,000.

Days on market (DOM) for sold homes have only increased on average by 1 day. The median DOM has jumped by almost a month.

We are almost a week away from the end of the month and I wonder how many of the under contract and contingent sales will close by the end of June.

The 2008 Market Square Day Calendar of Events for Entertainment Schedule is just full of awesome music and great bands in several places around the downtown area.  You’ll find over 100 vendor booths that will range from crafts to clothing to jewelry to face-painting to all kinds of food booths, and everything in between.  

Come for some great heart-of-Portsmouth fun - you’ll be glad you did!  Last year’s Market Square Day was great fun, despite the rainy weather!

Portsmouth New Hampshire Real Estate Market Update For May 2008

Real estate and the market activity is always a hot topic, everywhere we turn it’s always being talked about - on TV, in the newspapers, on the radio and in magazines, at parties, etc.

The Portsmouth New Hampshire real estate market has picked up quite a bit over the last couple of months, and the proof is in the numbers.  Real estate is so very local, I just wish the media would clue into that and start talking about local real estate markets instead of the ‘national market’, as they like to put it.

The average days on the market for both Portsmouth NH homes and condos are shortening up by over a month each, close to 2 months shorter in some cases. 

There are more buyers in the market now, creating some competition for those who’ve been in the market and just haven’t made up their minds, or who think they still have plenty of time to make a move on the house they really like.

 Portsmouth NH Residents Benefit From Free Wireless!!

If you’re a homeowner in the downtown area of Portsmouth NH, you’ve already been enjoying some of the free wireless access the city put in place a few years ago.  You could bring your laptop, grab a cup of coffee or tea, pick out your favorite spot, and log onto the internet, all while also doing some great people watching.  How cool is that??

And now, that free wireless access zone is getting ready to be expanded yet again, thanks to the joint efforts of the City of Portsmouth, Cisco, local technology companies, and our Greater Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce.  With the current access zone, plus the newly announced access zones that will be put in place throughout the year, we’ll have about 4 times the size of the free wi-fi area that we have right now.   

You can pull up in the downtown Market Square area and hook onto the internet from many spots.  Check out our local parks, the great outdoor cafes, plenty of benches all over town, and numerous other cool spots - work in some really great surroundings.

The local businesses that are behind this terrific Portsmouth benefit are Single Digits, Inc.; Port City Web; Bay Ring Communications; and Scott Campbell and Associates.  These businesses are all part of eCoast.  And Cisco Systems, Inc. has not only donated all the equipment, they also are providing tech support for this program, too.   The State of New Hampshire has provided a state grant to help with this city-wide program.

And what does all that mean for Portsmouth New Hampshire homeowners and residents - no cost to taxpayers!  Now, just how great is that??
