Portsmouth NH is just such a great place to live and call home, for so many reasons!  And one more to add to those reasons is the beautiful show Mother Nature puts on for us every year.  This year seemed especially vibrant - brilliant reds, fiery oranges and the brightest yellows - just glorious to see in person.

I put together this show for those who don’t live here and didn’t get a chance to enjoy what we got to see right out own windows.  And if you already live here in the Seacoast area of New Hampshire, I hope you enjoy seeing all over again what we saw for several weeks right here!

Portsmouth NH Real Estate Property Tax Rate Update

If you’re a homeowner in Portsmouth New Hampshire, then you should be aware that the Portsmouth city property tax rate is increasing by 3.9% for the fiscal year 2009.  The new rate will be $16.98 per $1,000 of your assessed valuation. 

What does this mean for all of us who are property owners in Portsmouth?  It’s a change of just 64 cents over last year’s rate of $16.34. 

Portsmouth NH tax year runs from July 1 to June 30th, and this new increase will be reflected in the bills we receive next month.  Our tax bills cover 6 months each, 3 months back and 3 months ahead. 

If you’d like to check and see what your estimated tax bill will be with the next tax rate, be sure to check out the online tax calculator Portsmouth has on the city website —> Portsmouth NH Homes Condos Real Estate tax calculator.

To use the online tax calculator, you’ll need to know what the assessed value of your Portsmouth home or condo is.  You can find that information out online at the Portsmouth NH city website as well —>  What’s My Portsmouth NH Homes Assessed Value?

If you feel your assessed value is incorrect, you can always file for an abatement, which is used to contest the value assigned to your property.  I filed an abatement on my property several years ago, and was successful in getting the assessed value at that time lowered.  You do need to do your homework, and have the assessed values of similar properties to back up your claim of an incorrect assessment.  If you really feel the value assigned to your property is too high, make sure to have documents showing this.

Halloween is almost here, and with that comes all kinds of ghostly fun around the Portsmouth New Hampshire Seacoast area.  Parades, parties, gatherings, and most importantly, all that fun trick-or-treating.

The 14th Annual Halloween Parade in Portsmouth is Friday, October 31st.  The parade festivities start at 7pm at the parking lot on the Mill Pond.  The parade route winds its way through downtown Portsmouth and then back to the Mill Pond area.  All are welcome to dress up and take part in the parade.  For more info on Portsmouth’s Halloween Parade, click here  —>  Portsmouth NH Halloween Parade

Take a tour around Portsmouth homes, you’ll see some fabulously decorated homes in all of the neighborhoods this year.  I’ve seen some homes where the homeowners have gone to great effort in their decorating - we should have a Halloween Decoration Contest just like we have a Christmas Decoration Contest each year.
