York, ME
York, Maine is a well known summer resort situated on the southwest corner of the state on the Atlantic Ocean bordered by the Gulf of Maine. York is home to several 18 hole golf clubs, sandy beaches and Mount Agamenticus
Known locally as “Big A”, Mount Agamenticus is part of a 30,000 acre park reservation which provides habitat for wildlife and a venue for recreation. From the top on a clear day you can see Boston to the south and the White Mountain range to the north.
Today York retains many distinctive example of ‘Gilded Age’ architecture, particularly in the shingle style. There is a cluster of historic buildings in the center of York Village that are maintained as museums by the Old York Historical Society.
