Fall in Love with the New Hampshire Seacoast

Getting Around

Follow Route 1A/Ocean Boulevard down the New Hampshire coastline and you'll pass through Wallis Sands, Rye North Beach, Rye Beach, Hampton, and finally arrive at Seabrook Beach. Go any further south and you're in Massachusetts. New Hampshire's 17 miles of coastline is the shortest of any of the US coastal states. It's a beautiful drive, albeit a short one. From Portsmouth, you're a mere 45 minutes from Boston and Portland and about 30 minutes from Gunstock Ski Mountain.

There's So Much to LOVE in the New Hampshire Seacoast Communities!

New Hampshire's seacoast is packed with fun things to do year-round. Launch your boat from Chapman's Landing in Stratham to venture into the Great Bay. And what coastal sightseeing would be complete without a visit to iconic lighthouses? Ranging from small fishing villages to bustling port cities, New Hampshire's seacoast communities offer their own distinct lifestyles Portsmouth, for instance, is a popular vacation destination because of its easy access to highways, its terrific downtown, and its busy harbor. New Castle, on the other hand, is a small island community that is a hidden gem nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the Piscataqua River. New Hampshire's seacoast communities are full of charm, history, and personality, so we highly recommend you explore them all!

Its Local History

Founded in 1630, Portsmouth is the third oldest city in the US. Visitors can enjoy a wide variety of activities during their stay. We highly recommend a tour of the Strawbery Banke Museum where costumed staff demonstrate traditional crafts. Nearby, the 1855 North Church presides over downtown’s Market Square with dozens of quaint shops, sidewalk cafes, and other cool places to visit. Riverside Prescott Park has spectacular gardens and river views. It's common to see bridal parties being photographed in the gardens. Just northwest of town, former research submarine USS Albacore is in a park, alongside a visitor center.

Other worthwhile places to visit: Children’s Museum of New Hampshire – exhibits and activities for children; The Music Hall of Portsmouth – the region’s leading concert venue; and a visit to the nearby Seacoast Science Center should be in your top 5 places to visit.
